In memory of Robert West Thornton lieut: Royal Fusiliers
Elder son of major R L Thornton CBE DL JP of High Cross in
this parish born 26th January 1896 and killed in action in
the Ypres Salient 16th June 1915 mentioned in despatches
and recommended by his commanding officer for the military
cross just before his death. In remebrance of his life and
death the sum of five hundred pounds three and a half per
cent stock has been invested for the benefit of the
charities of this parish
